Flooding Assistance
As you are aware, the devastating flooding in Nebraska has affected communities across the state. Our hearts go out to those of you who are affected. As your cooperative, we want to help you support your communities and have taken several actions toward that goal.
- We are planning to donate $10,000 to relief efforts. This money will be split equally between the funds created by the Nebraska Bankers Association and the Nebraska Credit Union League.
- We have been granted a non-objection letter from the Federal Housing Finance Agency. This letter means that anyone displaced by flooding in a county designated for individual assistance, regardless of income level, is eligible to live in any vacant Affordable Housing Program project nationwide. USDA Rural Development, HUD and LIHTC projects have been given similar authority as AHP projects to open vacant units to flood victims.
- Although there isn’t a separate fund for those affected by floods, over $4 million in our 2019 Homeownership Set-aside Program grants is still available. This funding is going quickly but could be a way to help income-eligible first-time homebuyers displaced by the flood purchase a house. First-time homebuyers include existing homeowners with uninhabitable properties due to the flood. Current funds available and other program requirements are posted on our website.
- Through the MPF Program, PFIs have the option to offer forbearance on MPF loans to those in areas affected by flooding. Payments can be delayed for up to 90 days without prior approval. Longer terms could be available upon approval.
We are here for you and your communities. Please contact us if there is anything we can do to help.
