FHLBank Topeka's board of directors was pleased to approve $12.18 million in affordable housing grants for 2022. The grants will help fund 15 projects through the competitive Affordable Housing Program (AHP) to Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma members. The successful applications will give 739 low- and moderate-income households a place to call home.
Each year, FHLBank Topeka allocates 10% of its prior year’s earnings to AHP. Nonprofit groups, for-profit developers, government agencies, and public entities apply for the grants for rental and owner-occupied housing projects through an FHLBank member like you. We appreciate the effort required from members and project sponsors to work through the application process.
“Each year, we have a difficult task when scoring AHP applications with so many deserving proposals. We commend our members for having the commitment and vision to sign on to advocate for an affordable housing project,” said Kylie Mergen, FVP, Community Investment Officer, Director of Housing and Community Development. “Our team is looking forward to working with the awarded members and sponsors as we continue through the AHP process to learn more about the good they are doing in their communities.”
Our housing and community development programs are central to our mission to make a difference by helping our members build their communities. The amount allocated to our grant programs depend on the success of our cooperative. The better we all do through the co-op, the more money is allocated to these community-building initiatives. We are grateful for your partnership in support of these important programs. See a complete list of our successful applicants by state followed by a list of our alternate projects.
